In 2007 Sharrow Community Forum appointed a development worker, Alison Norris, to explore the possibility of establishing a neighbourhood forum for the Abbeydale area. They were responding to a perception that the area was being ignored. Alison consulted widely in the community, reviewed previous work and held some initial meetings with different sectors of the community. In June 2008 two public meetings were held, involving a good mix of people from different genders, ages, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
We decided to create a forum called ACTion (Abbeydale Communities Together) with two aims:
- advocacy – to be a voice for local people
- activities – to organise activities that bring communities together or improve the area
We are a forum under the auspices of Sharrow Community Forum.
