We would love anyone living and working in the Abbeydale corridor to get involved. Get in touch or come along to one of our meetings. We normally meet on the first Monday of each month at St Peter’s Hall at Common Ground off Empire Road.
Here are our rules …
Rules for ACTion
What ACTion is for
Advocacy – to represent all the people living in the Abbeydale Corridor area and make sure it has a clear voice
Activities – to organise activities in the area.
Support – to find out what local people want and support them to develop activities.
Membership
Membership is open to everyone who is happy to follow ACTion’s rules. To be a member, people must sign a form agreeing to the group’s rules, then sign in at meetings.
To vote, members must have come to at least one meeting in the previous three
Making decisions
ACTion aims to listen to everyone’s point of view and make decisions by consensus wherever possible. However, decisions may be made by a simple majority to avoid a lock.
At least four members must be at a meeting to make decisions.
Officers
ACTion will have a chair who is the contact person for the group and who will normally speak on the group’s behalf at public meetings.
Members will take turns to run ACTion meetings, it is not the chair’s job to do this, though the chair may offer to do it sometimes.
ACTion will have two vice-chairs who will do the chair’s job when he or she is not able to do it. One vice chair will normally be the person who reports to ACTion meetings on money, the other will normally be a trustee for SCF.
ACTion will have a secretary who will normally make sure action points and decisions from meetings are recorded and shared with members.
Speaking for ACTion
Any member of the group can speak for ACTion providing this has been agreed at a meeting beforehand. At that meeting members will have had a chance to discuss and come to a group view.
If the group needs to comment quickly on an issue, ‘officers’ should make a judgment about speaking for the group. When they think it obvious what position ACTion will take then they should be free to speak (and then report back to the meeting). When they are unsure they should wait and ask at a meeting.
Money
ACTion will have its own bank account. This bank account will have five signatories, any two able to sign cheques.
Spending of over £100 needs to be agreed by a full meeting, but spending under £100 can be authorised by two of the ‘officers’. It must be reported to a full meeting. A meeting can give a working group a pot of money to use for a particular purpose e.g. setting up a fun day.
SCF will keep financial records and report to ACTion. ACTion will apply for funds as a sub-group of SCF, using its constitution.
Being respectful
ACTion and its members should not discriminate against people on the basis of race, religion, gender, disability, ual orientation or age
ACTion and its members should not be rude to, or about, other people
Members should respect each other’s views, even where they disagree with one another.
Dealing with problems
If any member is not following the rules, this will be raised at a meeting and an appropriate member will be asked to talk to the person causing problems. If things do not improve, the officers will ask the person to leave.
Winding up
If members wish to wind up ACTion, they will vote to close the group by simple majority. Any remaining funds will go to SCF.
